A Heap of Anime Updates Landed Over the Holidays
The Christmas holidays offer a plethora of pastimes considerably more enjoyable than catching up on the headlines: discovering surprises, getting stuffed on holiday treats, and using deep breathing to refrain from arguing with family members. It is wished you were able to accomplish all these things and more. Nevertheless, the entertainment world never sleeps, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. A slew of exciting news items came out during the festive period, and just in case you missed a few, here is a summary of the juiciest bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Will Continue (In 2027)
Perhaps the biggest revelation, the widely-criticized controversial season that was the third season of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to halt the series' continuation. The show will come back with a second cour in 2027—such a distant date they easily could have called it season 4. Adding to the surprise, the studio J.C. Staff will continue to be leading the project. At least this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the beginning, which is seen as a good sign. However, the key visual for the second cour is the same image the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This suggests that, by now, they could be teasing the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Will Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has established a name for being an elite animation studio, making its mark not just for the superb artistry of its productions but for the fair treatment of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had not produced an anime stemming from a manga published in Shonen Jump, possibly the best-known magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became widespread acclaim when it debuted in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a extended pause due to the mangaka's health issues. When it resumed publication with a reduced workload, the series proved it maintained the fans' appreciation and enthusiasm, and now the community is ecstatic about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.
Kingdom Season 6 Has a Sequel In Production
Kingdom is the best-selling, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English release, but the anime has been running for years, and its sixth season was another stellar entry. As it happens that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been announced as currently being made, and it will probably debut in 2026.
Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series
Another studio renowned for the excellent quality of its work, Science Saru has given us critically acclaimed works of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the real historical figure of Fatima, an influential woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and captivating visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my must-watch list.
Tougen Anki Will Return With a Second Season
Shortly after the conclusion of episode 24, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be securing a follow-up. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific premiere date has not been disclosed yet.
